Events

Sunday Streets Missoula encourages you to bike and walk downtown, without the threat of auto traffic.  The open streets also include many events and activities hosted by participating organizations and sponsors. 

While most activities will be ongoing, there are a few things happening only at specific times.  Please use the guide below to plan your day. 

9am – Missoula Mile women’s road race sponsored by Run Wild Missoula, kicks off at the Runner’s Edge.

9:15am – Missoula Mile men’s race, proceeds support Partnership Health Center.

9:30am – Missoula Mile kid’s race (race is really in the neighborhood of a half mile, is super cute, and is rewarded with ice cream).

11am – Tae Kwon Do demonstration and classes (X’s) 

12pm – Oula dance classes (X’s)

12-2pm – Kids’ dance party at Blackbird Kids Shop (525 S. Higgins)

1pm - Djebe Bara African Dance Lessons with Drumming (X’s)

1:30pm – Djebe Bara African Dance Lessons (X’s) 

2:00pm - Tae Kwon Do demonstration and classes (X’s) 

3:00pm – Fencing demonstration (X’s)

The following complete list of activities can be read from North to South down Higgins from the X’s to 5th St. and down 4th St. to Toole Park.

Alder St. by the X’s

Open Road will be offering bike tune-ups and product info.

Cone Boy will be anchoring the north end of Higgins.

West African drumming and dance lessons with Djebe Bara.

Fit Montana is teaming up with Championship Training to set up an obstacle course, demonstrate martial arts techniques, and teach free Tae Kwon Do classes.

Bean bags will be flyin’ during the “Pov Toss” with the Poverello Center.

Get some exercise and have fun shaking your booty with Oula.

Spruce St.

Kids games and prizes, temporary tatoos, cookie decorating, and face masks from Missoula Vinyard Church.

Sunflower Montessori School will have stickers, balloons, and information about interactive learning for children.

MISMO Gymnastics invites you to twist and tumble with them on their obstacel course.

Bounce around the room in the Big Sky Bouncers’ bounce house.

The Old Post Pub will be serving creole chicken with rice samples.

Pine St.

Western Montana Clinic is providing FREE lipid and glucose screenings.

The Girl Scouts will be your caddys at their putting greens.

Parachute games and more with the strong women of G.U.T.S.

Partnership for Children will have balloons, kids games, and more.

Jimmy Johns sandwich shop will have some “Sunday Samples.”

A model piazza with bike stations and more set up by FreeCycles on Pine St. will include a found object sculpture booth with the Missoula Art Museum and other activities with Adventure Cycling Association.

Broadway

The Runner’s Edge is sponsoring the Missoula Mile, and will be signing people up for the Diva Race in October.

KBGA College Radio invties you to make maracas with them and then make some beautiful music, or at least a good ruckus.

Prep Mentors invites you to a game (or more) of ladder golf.

Chalk the sidewalk, and even the street with the Artists’ Shop

The Green Light will have juice samples, and sales on socks and shoes.

Stop by the BID Downtown Ambassdors’ cart to learn more about Sunday Streets and downtown Missoula.  

Philly West will have some Sunday Samples.

Main St.

Lightfoot Cycles will demonstrate their unique custom bikes and trikes.

BWAM will be teaming up with St. Patrick Hospital  and the Bike Ambassadors to sell low-cost bike and skateboard helmets.

A grizzly photo booth (quite literally) with the National Wildlife Federation and the Center for Wildlife Information.   

Satori Massage will have their chair out, offering massages. 

Aikido of Missoula will be hosting demonstrations and giving lessons.  

Hit some balls off the air tee with the Missoula Osprey.

Take a tour of the Web on Wheels Bus, check out the mobile library.

Montana Public Radio is teaming up with Fact & Fiction for outdoor poetry and sidewalk haiku.

Yo Waffle will be supplying some Sunday Samples. 

Front St.

Recycling games with MUD.

Pita Pit will have Sunday Samples.

A (cup)cake walk will be led by the Missoula Community Food Co-op.

 Turning the Wheel will have an art booth using recycled materials.

The Mercantile Deli will be providing Sunday Samples.

Higgins Bridge

5 Minute dog training with the Humane Society of Western Montana.

REI-Missoula is providing free bike maintenance for all, as well as having some nifty giveaways.  

Modwest will be showcasing local artists and other clients for whom they host websites.   

An interactive web design booth with MattMadeMedia.

Challenge the Hellgate Rollergirls in a roller derby bout (or just skate with them over the bridge). 

Help the Public Art Commission chalk the entirety of the Higgins Bridge.  

Garden City Gondola will be offering rides in their pedal-powered chariots all day. 

3rd St.

Meadowsweet Herbs will teach you how to make your own aroma therapy bath salts.

Feather earring demonstations by Bathing Beauties. Make a pair today!

4th St.

Wellness screenings, including the Ragland’s Test for adrenal gland function and a ph toxicity test, performed by Bitterroot Acupuncture and Wellness Center.

Sewing demonstrations by Selvedge Studio.

Make your own prayer flag with the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center and fly it high on the Hip Strip.

A kids’ dance party in front of Blackbird Kid Shop.

The Silk Road will have Sunday Samples from around the world.

Betty’s Divine will have some old skool street games set up, like hopscotch and double dutch.

Bubble Tea will be the featured Sunday Sample by Iza Asian Restaurant.

The Bridge Pizza will be cooking outside in their new mobile oven.

The Sierra Club will provide environmental information and more.

Missoula Parks and Recreation will set up in Toole Park with a folf course, a climbing wall, and free loaner bicycles from their Dasani Blue Bikes Program.

Animeals will be offering healthy pet tips.

5th St.

Taco Sano will have taco sized breakfast burritos for Sunday Samples.

A record swap and dancin’ in the street with Ear Candy.

Edge of the World is bringing out ramps and rails to skate in the street.  

Big Dipper is at the end of the line, where there is sure to be a line for ice cream.

Sunday Samples will also be provided by Pizza Pipeline.

Holy Spirit Episcopal Church will host some games to entice people over to their historic church, where they will be leading tours and have even more games and prizes.

Food

Sunday Samples are low cost or even free food items provided by restaurants along the route. This year Sunday Samples will be available at: The Old Post Pub, Jimmy Johns, The Green Light, Philly West, Yo Waffle Yogurt, The Pita Pit, The Mercantile Deli, The Bridge Pizza, The Silk Road, Iza Asian Restaurant, Taco Sano, and Pizza Pipeline.
